Concord Place Memory Care in Knoxville, Tennessee, recently celebrated the life of 99-year-old resident Marilyn Shotz Hahn, whose lifelong passion for music continues to inspire her family, fellow residents, and caregivers.
Now living with memory loss, Hahn has also lost her sight and much of her hearing, but music remains a powerful connection to her past and the people she loves. A highlight of the celebration was the discovery of a recording of Hahn singing at age 22, allowing family members and caregivers to hear her young soprano voice once again.
Before moving to Concord Place, Hahn trained with the New England Conservatory of Music Opera Company, performed across the country, and later spent decades as a vocal coach in Northern Virginia, influencing countless students.
Today, her musical legacy lives on through her great-granddaughter, Jeanna Weckstein, who still seeks vocal guidance from her "Mema" during family visits.
The celebration highlighted the enduring power of music to preserve identity, strengthen connections, and bring joy throughout life.
