Morningside Place Memory Care in Overland Park, Kansas, knows how to put the “senior” in “senior prom”! This year’s prom took place at Matt Ross Community Center, and the environment was aimed to evoke memories of past proms with a large dance floor and colorful disco lights.
Events like these are special because they have a way of sparking memories for individuals with dementia who may have lost their short-term memory but can recall with clarity events of days long past.
Resident, Elaine Nelson, was there for the Frank Sinatra tunes. “I love the music. I love to be around people”, she said. “It’s loud and noisy, but it’s fun!”
