August brought plenty of sunshine and an occasional thunderstorm, but no shortage of meaningful moments across our Anthem Memory Care communities. As summer begins to wind down and children head back to school, we’re making the most of these final weeks of the season, enjoying outings, gathering with friends, celebrating special occasions, and finding plenty of opportunities to stay connected.
While the days are still warm, our residents are already looking ahead to fall and all the possibilities it brings. Cooler weather will bring more opportunities to get out into the greater community, enjoy the changing scenery, and welcome a new season filled with fresh activities and adventures.
As always, August was a busy month. From ball games and park visits to supporting tornado relief efforts to simply spending time relaxing and visiting with fellow residents, August had something for everyone. Here are a few of the highlights:
After devastating tornadoes swept through the Chicago area, residents and staff at Harvester Place Memory Care in Burr Ridge, Illinois, stepped up to help. They gathered supplies and traveled to a hard-hit neighborhood to lend their support to the families and volunteers.
Churchill Place Memory Care's school supply drive in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, was a huge success! Residents put together bags with notebooks, rulers, and other school necessities. All supplies were donated to DuPage PADS to support local children.
Emerald Place Memory Care residents in Glenview, Illinois, read some of their favorite children’s classics to local preschoolers in celebration of International Youth Day.
Residents of Chelsea Place Memory Care in Aurora, Colorado, visited the local stables, connecting and engaging with some beautiful, gentle miniature horses. It’s one of their favorite outings, and the image above says it all.
Liberty Place Memory Care in West Chester, Ohio, has several retired teachers among their residents. They, along with staff, had some back-to-school fun, crafting photo collages of themselves from back in the day and printed recollections of their favorite moments.
Residents of Highline Place Memory Care in Littleton, Colorado, enjoyed a relaxing outing to the beautiful Hudson Gardens, with its scenic garden walks and lush greenery.
Residents, staff, and families at Concord Place Memory Care in Knoxville, Tennessee, gathered for a moving tribute by the East Tennessee Nurse Honor Guard to two remarkable residents and retired nurses, Dottie Ness and Mary Milora.
It was family time at Vineyard Place Memory Care in Murrieta, California, as residents and their loved ones worked together to create collages filled with images reflecting years of wonderful memories and special moments.
As you look back on your summer, we hope you were able to find opportunities to slow down, make meaningful memories, and enjoy some simple moments together with your friends and family.
With the warm weather still here, it’s important to take advantage of these days by getting out and about, whether that means a stroll outdoors, a visit to a favorite spot, an ice cream treat, or simply sitting together in the sunshine. These small outings can bring joy, stimulation, and connection, especially for a loved one with dementia.
At our Anthem Memory Care communities, we are looking forward to September and all the new experiences it brings. As we transition into fall, we’re excited to welcome cooler days, new activities, and opportunities to create even more meaningful moments together.
